COOPER, Ms. Vanessa-age 54 passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at her residence. Funeral Service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, March 9, 2013 with 11:00 a.m. Family Hour at Galilean Baptist Church 109 W. Holbrook Ave. Flint, MI 48505 Pastor Sean Payne officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery 9506 N. Dort Hwy. Mt. Morris, MI 48458. Calling Hours for Ms. Cooper are 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Serenity Funeral Chapel G-2340 W. Carpenter Rd. Flint, MI 48505.

Mrs. Vanessa Cooper was born November 30, 1958 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, the daughter of Melvin and Betty McCord.
Vanessa attended Flint Community Schools and later attended Baker College to further her education. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age, and enjoyed singing in the choir at Galilean Baptist Church; where she attended all of her life. She later obtained employment with the Flint Community School system, where she worked until her health failed. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed planning family events.

Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Eugene Cooper of Tucson, Arizona; 2 daughters, Jacqueline (Tennell) McCord and Tiffany Cooper; step daughter, Alonda Sims; godson, Dionte Croft; grandchildren, Trenshayla, Keaja, Drayveon, Malaysha, Kendraysha, Drayquan, Draylynn, and Nakiyah; mother, Betty McCord; sisters, Katrina (Aaron) Hughes, and Sharon McKenzie all of Flint, MI; brothers, Orlando McCord of Flint, MI, and Prentice McKenzie of Detroit, MI; 4 nieces, Yolanda, Sharay, Prenisha, and Yakira; 5 nephews, Emel, Ian, Courtney, Anthony Jr., and Prentice Jr. all of Flint; aunts, Alice Lee of Flint, Dorothy (Ben) Echoles and Estella Lloyd both of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Ora (Oscar) Merideth of Florence, Alabama; a host of cousins, sister-in-laws; brother-in-laws and other relatives and friends including special friend, Nathaniel Burnside, and all of her friends that called and came by during her illness.
Vanessa was preceded in death by: father, Melvin McCord; aunt, Lona Freeman; sister, Tonya Gipson; grandparents, Leonard and Florence McCord, Ollie and Hattie Lloyd; uncles, Ollie Mac Lloyd and James McCord.

The family would like to express thanks to: American Hospice Care, Dr. Khan, Dr. Katato, Dr. Adams, and all of the nurses and doctors at Hurley Medical Center; and a very special thank you to the Early Childhood Development Center at Manley, Summerfield, and King Schools; and to Pastor Sean Payne and the Galilean Church Family.
